Upper 70's and sunny today, so I picked up a dozen crappie minnows and went to the river.

Caught 7 or 8 nice crappie and one white bass. and... and... and...

a 6 1/2 lb. largemouth bass on a #4 hook and a 2 in. long crappie minnow. About 20 minutes playing it in with 8 lb. test line on a zebco 33 rod and reel.

Baxters been egging me to come fishing.

At the price they are charging for putting a boat in, they can keep their lake. Badin is free, much larger, and better fishing.

Imagine what you could have caught if you had gotten the "good" minnows!

an old aggie here (well not quite as old as myself) wrote a song called '5 pound bass' which I quite like. his name is Robert Earl Keen and he wrote a song a long time ago (pretty much about this little town) with Lyle Lovett (The Back Porch Song). Mr Keen is perhaps a bit better known for another song he wrote called "the road goes on forever, but the party never ends' which was brought to the public's attention by Joe Ely.

if you like story tellin' songs you should check out Robert Earl's work.

ps.. in regards to fish (catchin' and eatin') I prefer to catch bass but to eat crappie.
