I have a question about mushrooms.I live in North New Jersey I want to know if its to late to start shittake mushrooms on a log.Second I am wondering whether I can grow morel mushrooms in NJ and when I can grow them. Finally how do you grow oyster mushrooms outside on cardboard or coffee grounds or other cheap products.
P.S If anyone sell or knows someone who sell fresh logs in NJ or NY or Pa I would be delighted to know.

Wow Sam! I would love to learn to grow mushrooms myself so I have no advice for you. I've been told that you can call the folks at Fungi Perfecti and they will answer all sorts of questions and help you find out what will and won't work for your location. I used to have one of their catalogs but didn't use it and finally passed it on to someone else.
Good luck with your mushroom growing! Let me know how it works out for you.

A source for mushrooms kits and plugs is PineTree Seeds, although they are in Maine, not the states you cited.
Their website is www.superseeds.com (http://www.superseeds.com) and I have ordered seeds from them for several years, always with good results and good customer service. They promise detailed instructions with both the kits and the plugs.

Morels? I've heard that they can't be propagated. However, in the last couple of years I've seen "kits" for sale that claim it takes a couple of years for the morels to come to fruitation. I'm still waiting to hear someone say that they are worthwhile.
