Maybe should have taken the opportunity to pop in some pollen patties but it is supposed to get cold again tomorrow.
That, and I was too busy just watching :mrgreen:
Found 1 more hive that is pegging out, less than a couple hundred bees, no queen or brood.
So far 16 for 18, only one more that I am unsure of, lots of bees on one side of the hive but haven't touched the fondant all winter.

Yeah, in the first pic I thought they might have been sugar blocks because it was almost white in the sunlight and had bees all over it.

Believe it or not those are solid granite core cuts. Kind of creepy but the local monument place :shock: saves em for me and I give em a jar of honey for a bunch. They are the pieces cut out of bigger blocks that urns get lowered into!
I've got smaller ones for nucs as well. They are perfectly flat on the bottom and are some heavy too. Beats looking for bricks and adds a little something to the appearance eh? :mrgreen:

Swarming won't start here for a while yet, maybe towards the end of May. After I reversed my deeps a few days ago, most of my hives have an empty deep above the main cluster. Plenty of room. We have had such lousy weather, rain and more rain! I have queens arriving mid May and I need to make up 10 nucs and out of 15-16 hives I may be hard pressed to find 10 strong enough to pull anything more than 2 frames of brood at best (unless they pick up in the next couple of weeks!) I put 1 to 1 on 3 days ago to stimulate brood rearing (after having put pollen patties on beginning of April), despite their having lots of winter stores left.
