Does anybody have trouble with bears? I'm beginning beekeeping in the spring. Although I have never seen a bear in my area, they are around. I'm looking for suggestions and advice about keeping my hives safe.

Bears will destroy a hive quickly. If one finds an apiary, they will continue to retiurn until there are no more bees, or until the bear is stopped. Prevention is 100 times easier than curing once they find it.

An electric fence with a bait hung on it is the most reliable. A strip of bacon, or similar, will get the bear a shock in the wet mouth area and he will learn quick. His fur is thick enough for him to go through the fence without feeling it if he doesn't try to bite it first.
