Today I received a dry sting. In 30 plus years of beekeeping, I had never had that happen. She came in, stung me on the neck, flew away without leaving her stinger. The pain was instant, like being stuck with a needle, but was gone just as quickly. No lingering pain, so I guess she left no venom.
Anyone else ever experienced such a sting?

I was just getting ready to say "yellowjacket" also.... ;) That or iddee has no clue what a queen looks like! :)
I've had a couple like that on the hands. I figured she just could not get a grip on the rough skin and fled without getting the stinger deep enough.
