I have just joined beekeepingforums.com as of today and am looking forward to my new start with bees.

As of yet I have not started learning about bees firsthand but am anticipating my experience with keeping bees in a healthy, humane environment.

Such clever little things and so much to teach us about this new age-my fascination with these creatures is growing by the day and their honey, pollen, royal jelly, beeswax and propolis have become new obsessions for me based on their wide spectrum of health benefits for all ages and ailments.

Thinking of buying some isolated land to place them on and growing tons of plants, flowers and trees for them to feast on.

Bees will routinely fly 2 -3 miles away from their hives to find nectar/pollen, sometimes as much as 6 miles. Unless you buy your own private island, you couldn't possibly "isolate" them from whatever is on your neighbors' land, or plant enough stuff to give them a "feast". Wherever you place your hives, look at the bigger picture - the satellite imagery of the area around the hive for a radius of 3 miles. Or go explore that area on your car or bicycle.

Rachel,
unless your living in the middle of a heavily populated area, bees can and do well almost anywhere, and if you take but a few precautions, are quite safe in a relatively rural area, just check with your local zoning office for whatever steps and restrictions are required for your particular area. Of their own choice, bees are not aggressive at all, simply working in peace, unless molested, or interfered with. Learn the rules and have fun.
Barry

not that long ago you could travel not so far from Orlando and be in some pretty isolate and even wild appearing places (I spent a lot of my young life over in the Kissimmee River area). now sprawl and excessive population seems to be the rule over much of the southern end of Florida. upon a revisit with my wife a couple of years back I was very much amazed at the extent of the environmental decline in Florida. the fresh water spring (which I knew quite well as a young man) showed obvious signs of being over used and tainted with fertilizer and agricultural chemicals. the signs of population growth ADDICTION was everywhere you looked.
