I plan on making queens this year for the first time and will be making one of my hives queenless. My question is after 10 days once my queens cups are ready can I just throw the old queen back into the hive or do I have to put her into a queen cake and introduce her?

Well this weekend sucked but was very educational. So last week I split my hive, everything was going good until all my other hives started robbing it. By the time I realized what was happening it was to late. They absconded into a tree and what was cool about it was I was there to witness everything from them leaving the hive to clustering up in a tree. Anyways I got a ladder climbed up shook them back into their box and took the hive 50yds away from all the other hives that were robbing it. I know 50yds isn't enough but I have no other options. So everything is well again until 24hrs later I notice a little ball of bees on a 4X4. Curious I go over there to investigate all to find out that it's the queen from my split. I caught her and place her back into the hive think they would miss her WRONG! They attacked and killed her lol. So pretty much this split was a bust but I did learn a lot. Next split I do I'm throwing it into my truck and driving 5 miles to my brothers house and keep it there till it's established enough to where it can defend itself.
