The other day a fellow walked up to where I was taking pics, he was hurting and using a cane

he reached down, picked up a bee, lifted his shirt and stung himself

WHAT !!!

he then asked another fellow to do it again right next to the same place.....

I was dumbfounded but had read of this madness called Apitherapy

10 Minutes later he lifted his arms above his head , stretched and said it was the first time he has stood erect in 3 days, for the next 2 hrs he worked and did not pick up the cane again.

He has a ruptured disk and it gives hell every now and then, sting therapy works wonders to relieve the pain.

My wife uses them regularly. I gave her one Sunday and she asked tonight for another one tomorrow. It's forecast to be 62 tomorrow. They should be flying.

People have been doing this all over the world for centuries I think.

It's only here in the US that we think of it as nutty.

Just this week I started taking some homeopathic Arnica to help my shoulder joint. I should get some stings in my shoulder this Spring to try it out. It would be only fair considering it was lifting brood boxes that hurt my shoulder to begin with!

Arnica is awesome, I use the oil for bruises and aching muscles after Tennis. It results in a warming sensation after rubbing it in, have also used it for dull gout pain, need meds for severe outbreak. But I may just try Apitherapy next time for my gout.

Our OBGYN suggested it to my wife years ago and we have used it ever since. Not easy to find pure Arnica Oil in USA except online. In South Africa every Pharmacy has it.

Hmm...I wouldn't normally put OBGYN and bee sting therapy anywhere near each other in my mind.

Even though I've had bees for almost a year and a half now, I've always worn gloves and have never actually picked up a bee with my fingers before. Can you give some helpful details on how to do that without getting your fingers stung? Seems like the girls can do a lot of wiggling! And how do you 'make' them sting you in the right spot?

How is it done best? Details, please!

Lets use a larger animal for comparison. Pick up a puppy with your hand by grasping him by the back. If he cannot twist his body, "a bee cannot", he cannot scratch you.

A bee can only bend its body downward when held that way. When you put it on a spot where its legs can touch, it can then bend its body downward to sting. ""And it will"
Just use the thumb and forefinger to pick it up.

So you are not approaching it from on top and grasping the wings only?
You grasp the whole bee body and wings and all from the back with your two fingers?

But...then when you 'apply' the bee to your skin, won't it use the newfound traction on its feet to then twist around to sting your fingers, the things that are restraining it? Does it not see your fingers as the thing to try and sting?
