    A nice big swarm ....

    100_0593.JPG

Up about 12 feet off the ground in a big oak tree, in a bad neighborhood

    or not.......

    100_0596.JPG

Nice Medium size open hive...... 8 frames of comb.....lots of brood and eggs too, but little in way of stores

    100_0597.JPG

Decided to go with a Med Super in the end.... and yes we decided to suit up as I took a sting early on while prepping on the ground

    Cutting away piece by piece

    100_0603.JPG

Filled 8 1/2 frames in a medium super in the end, all the empty comb we cut away

    100_0606.JPG

The remnants , sprayed with B Quik to help them choose a new home

and yes we did find the queen towards the end and managed to get her into a clip

    safely in her new home

Thanks to Rob who came out early on Saturday morning, only a few stings mostly of my own making, like gripping comb and squishing a bee etc etc

Never had any idea that bees would build a colony in the open like that...

Very unusual in our region..... there were many big trees around and I would have thought they might find a hole in one of them, also the houses were old and again - a hole would have made more sense. But the queen was laying away merrily , eggs and brood.
