Hello all I am new to this forum but not beekeeping.
I have been at it 7 years this time and i'm going in to winter with 30 + hives.
I had bee's in the 70's but that was a different world.
I will be retiring early starting the end of March 2018 to work my bees/ start raising Queens and build things for sale in my wood shop.

My home yard is in the Nat. Forest and the nearest beekeeper is over 10 miles away other than one of my out yards that is 8 miles in a straight line but close to 11 driving.

Small Hive Beetles have been worse than mites here this year. We got rain during the summer, and then drought in the fall. Weather seems to really contribute to beetle counts. And I run chickens under my hives, and use beneficial nematodes in my garden, but the woods and creek nearby are soft and mucky when it rains
