I'm new to bee keeping and have two new hives waiting on nucs to be available for pic up in April. In my high anxiety while waiting, I have built 3 swarm traps and with no idea where to put them picked 3 random place in the woods. All are about 9 - 10 feet off the ground. I suppose my chances of catching a hive are pretty slim since the reason I'm getting hives is because I seldom see honey bees around our property.
I also anguished over where to put my hives. I finally decided on a place at the edge of a field just off my yard (so mowing won't disturb bees) facing east. In the summer they will get shade in the afternoon and trees and bushes will block the north side from winter winds. I sure hope this turns out to be as intriguing and fun as I expect it to be.
