think Im gonna use this swarm to build up a hive that seems to have gone queenless, a deep and a half of bees and no brood young enough to raise a new queen.

    Whoa

Have you tried a frame of eggs from a 'good' colony in your 'queenless' colony ? The 'queenless' colony may contain a young queen that has not started to lay.

Adding a swarm of unknown qualities (disease, temperment) may be giving you future problems.

    Still a long winter here.

I look at it this way, I dont want another hive at this point, the hive that put this swarm out is doing well enough to swarm and it puts a laying queen in the hive right away, I can also requeen later if I dont like this 1.
