My 1st year of beekeeping I used cinder blocks and the ants had easy access (here in Geiorgia we have many, many Varieties... I think the ones that invade the hives are sugar ants)

the 2nd year I made wood tables and with the use of Vaseline on the legs it was tougher for ants...

This year I will use PVC pipes cemented in ground with steal grating as my table... I may use plastic bowls tipped upside down with Vaseline coating…







...what do you use?

First, I must say, I had in mind you were just a bit older than the photo shows. :D

The only time I have seen an ant problem is when there is no bee space above the inner lid, or there is no hole in the center of the inner lid. If I do have a problem, I will first use white powdered lime under the hives. If that doesn't do the job, I will go to migratory lids.
