Just started feeding sugar water to my new swarm with a 4" shim [plate inside] on top of deep box with 10 frames/foundations in it. Ants showed up on the plate this morning that I have the sugar water on. What to do?
    Malathion?

    NO malathion.

Boraxo, aka 20 mule team borax, mixed equally with sugar, placed where the ants can get it but the bees can't.

OR cinnamon spread all around the base of the hivestand.

I've head really good results with cinnamon. The bees don't seem to mind it but the ants tend to avoid it.

ETA: Definitely agree with Iddee on not using malathion. Try the cinnamon. ;)
