I went to the kitchen to tell my wife about the uranium link Baby Beek posted. Wife was just coming from the asparagus garden with a handfull of fresh asparagus spears.

I guess spring has sprung. :yahoo:

It's ALL YOUR FAULT. I had never eaten asparagus until you folks started posting recipes for it. Now my wife cooks it nearly every week.

Of course, I will have to admit, it is pretty good.

Iddee, do I understand you have never eaten Asparagus before ?

Heavens I bet they got you on that tough ole green asparagus stuff !

    Insist on White !!!

A little harder to get, you take a big long butcher knife, go out in the patch look closely, when you see the dirt with a small crack slide the knife down deep alongside and cut out the finest asparagus you will ever have.

Been there and done that, 7 acre asparagus truck farm patch !

Think that's why my back is in the shape it's in, course my Mom was there cutting also she was pregent with my youngest sister.

Kid have such a rough life today.

Ok, I'm going to the back of the bus.

I wonder if the uranium would grow extra big asparagus!

I love fresh asparagus... can't seem to get mine to do well at all. I think maybe I need to try planting a different variety.

    Baby.... leave the uranium alone!

I'm having trouble with mine as well. Someone told me that you need to make sure it has plenty of water in the fall before it goes dormant for the winter. Of course, by the time I learned that, it was too late for last fall!

Nothing like fresh asparagus. It tastes different (better!) than the store-bought produce, don't ask me why. Harvesting hint: If you just snap the stalk off by hand, you will leave the woody part behind and not have to cut it off.

Was outside today getting the garden ready, along with the flower beds and there it was, little shoots just coming out of the ground!!

I love it, Spring is here. Everything is turning green and all of the flowers are starting to open.

I have never had any trouble growing asparagus, just put into ground and forget until spring.Works every time!

It was store bought, but we had it for supper, "dinner for you Yankees", tonight. Along with pork chops, mashed potatoes, and fried cinnamon apples.

Oh yes that is funny- I grew up in NY where everyone said 'dinner' for the evening meal. My husband who is from Iowa and Illinois always says 'supper' for the evening meal, and I've always found that to be very 'quaint'. :p
