I am new to this and received my first nuc in late may. I was too late and they swarmed, more than once. I did not witness it but my lady is gone and am positive it happened more than once. I thought I was ahead of the game with supplying enough room in a timely manor and proper ventilation. They did blow up unbelievably fast and were heading for a crazy amount of surplus in the first year. Anyways it happened and now its been 12 days since the first swarm left. I was inspecting before I new the situation and saw some swarm cells(4) which I cut out. One in the upper deep and three in the lower deep. I was only able to inspect 5 of the 10 in the lower deep because they were overly aggressive, which I should have realized why. After I figured out what was going on I worried that I just killed their future queen and was hoping they had more cells on the frames I could not inspect. I was out of town for a week and when I returned I inspected right away. I was down to a 1/3 of the population ,found more queen cell opened, and went backwards on all the surplus honey that was there. I thought I saw a hatched virgin queen, I had her in my hand but I'm not sure if she was a queen. She was definitely longer than the average worker, just not like my older queen looked, assuming because she was newly hatched. When I put her back in the hive she was running from the other girls. I hoped it was because they have excepted another and were trying to off her. I inspected today (1week later) on not the best day, no sunshine a little cooler but i am nervous. I was hoping to see a queen, and more importantly new eggs. I did not see either, not sure if there was just not good light to see them or what. I am not sure If I have just not waited long enough or if they have no queen at all. I did see a couple of cells I left from the previous inspection opened and no new queen cells at all. I would guess at this point it would be too late for them to make any new queens. So what should I do? Give it more time, or order a new queen. I am afraid they have a queen and didn't see her so they would just kill the new one. I am also afraid if I wait they are doomed. Any suggestions from the wise and experienced? Thank you in advance.
