One of the things I've found as a beekeeper is that there is enormous value in being involved with a local beekeeping club. Not only is hanging out with other beeks just plain fun, there's a wealth of knowledge to be shared. As I've participated on a number of online bee forums, I often recommend to new beeks to join a club, and have collected a list of links. Feel free to add and/or update as needed.

Re: Bee Clubs-Florida

We formed a local beekeeping club here in Alachua County, Florida servicing most of North central Floridas beekeepers. We have members in Live Oak and Branford (Suwanee County), Fort White and Lake City (Columbia County), Williston (Marion County), Trenton (Gilchrist County) and Oldtown (Dixie County). So don't let the name fool you.

We meet the 3rd Thursday of every month at Dadant and Sons in High Springs at 7 pm. All interested are welcome to join us.Most of us also belong and support our state organization.

There are also regional associations and opportunities to connect, rub elbows, support, and get involved, with people outside your local areas. One of the things I'm looking forward to this year is HAS (Heartland Apicultural Society) which is being held in Ohio this year. I'm already registered and look forward to meeting new people there. The site is http://www.heartlandbees.com/

BTW...Hello Rob. ;) Rob is a perfect example of leadership you get with top-notch bee clubs as with the one he mentioned above. Beyond having many very talented members, they also go outside their own bounderies and support events such as the "National Honey Bee Awareness Day" event planned for this coming August. (Thank you Bob... ;) )

Saw the Chat Room post by Tecumseh that said the bee school went well. Well, it was better than that!

There were folks there that had absolutely no previous knowledge about bees, and were more than just a little apprehensive. After listening to the presenters and seeing Tec's hive examination, they were ready to have a go at it.

There was one woman who was a bit afraid of the bees, but then she saw a bee emerge...couldn't get her away from the hive. It was a great day for all.

Plus, my smoker now stays lit! ;)

Except, Iddee, that the listing for Crystal Coast Beeks is wrong! Ray Harris used to be the Extension Agent in Carteret County but has retired and Anne D. Edwards is now agent. The extension office has pretty much handed the deal over to us, now, and the present contact for the club is either me or President Russ Lewis. Anyone interested can check us out at http://ccba.webng.com.
