I live about 3/4 mile from Lake Barkley here in Western Kentucky. The mosquitoes have been bad this year (according to some...I haven't noticed) because of the amount of rainfall we have received. The State decided that before the 4th of July holiday it would be a good idea to spray the lake area for mosquitoes using airplanes & fog trucks. I was concerned but they claim the poison only kills adult mosquitoes, larva & black flies. Well a few days later this is what I have. (see pics) The Dept of Ag is sending inspectors out tomorrow to get samples of the bees. I can't say for sure that the mosquito spraying killed my bees but I'm not near any agriculture spraying & I sure haven't sprayed anything. The state apiarist contacted me & thinks its the spraying that did it but once again not sure. I also talk to a master beekeeper in my area & he said the same. I will go on record & say the State has been very cooperative so far. I guess we'll just wait & see what the test show if anything. In the meantime I just hope my hives stay strong enough to survive. I'll keep everyone posted on what happens. This is just a couple of many pictures I have.
