.....but something didn't seem right about that pic of brood comb.
I saw that it was a WarrÃ© comb, but the article was about a beek in Australia. By law, WarrÃ© hives in Australia must have frames, but the pic was a regular (frameless) comb. Then I clicked the wikimedia link under the pic. The pic was credited to a Canadian beekeeper that I know through the WarrÃ© Yahoo Group list. He took the pic in Toronto.
I just love scrutinizing bee photos in articles :twisted: :wink:
It wasn't clear to me from the article if the dog smells the AFB from a closed hive or only after it has been opened. If the latter is the case, the dog isn't much better than an experienced beekeeper---Foulbrood has a very distinctive odor and if you've come across it enough, you too should be able to identify it by the "nose" it produces.
