Bees enter/exit through vent hole concerns

First post. Only one year into this adventure… Two hives started 2022 and have had success through Wisconsin winter. Late fall 2022, drilled one vent hole each of the top deep box. Now this spring 2023 in each hive they are using the vent hole as primary entrance/exit versus the normal entrance on the bottom. Main concern is they won’t work their way down to the lower box since everything have read and experienced is they work their way up versus down. Instinct says to cover one hive with screen and watch for a few days to see if they start using the primary entrance again then if successful do the other one.
Am I on right track?

Is the bottom entrance blocked? Don't block the top unless you are sure.

I'd reverse the boxes if you want the bees in the bottom.

The main entrance is 100% cleaned from winter gunk. I put screen on one hole late last night and will monitor. Otherwise I did consider swapping them
