I have noticed there are a lot of songs that make reference to bees or honey in the lyrics. So lets have some fun and see how many songs we can name that have this in there lyrics. I will start it:

Johnny Cash: How highs the water Momma

Cindy:

You oughta see my Cindy,
she comes from way down South
She's so sweet the honeybees
swarm around her mouth

Kitty Clyde:

I wish I was a little bee, a honey bee
I'd never sip the nectar from the flower
But steal just one kiss from my sweet Kitty's lips
Lord I'd fill my hive from her brow

"Flight of the Bumblebee" Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is the first to come to my mind.

"Honey Bee" Lucinda Williams
"Oh, my little honey bee, I'm so glad you stung me."

"Honey Bee" Muddy Waters
"I hear a lot of buzzing, sounds like my little bee. She's been all around the world makin' honey, but now she's coming back home to me."

Some musician friends of mine (Frank & Kim) have an AWESOME blues band called The Little Brothers- they've put out several cds. Their new cd has a blues song title "New Bumble Bee". You can listen to a little clip here:
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/littlebrothers2 :D

(And you can hear Frank playing some amazing gut string minstrel banjo on the duet clip "What Fault You find of Me".)

srvfan....I thought of you  http://youtu.be/0vJIO8LGTnw ;)

My niece sent us a link to a song by Blake Shelton named "Honey Bee"...it's sort of a cute song, but I pity the poor feller that would try that silliness on my sweet little Baby Beek!

There's another one out that one of my cousins sent me called "American Honey" by Lady Antebellum.

My Daddy used to sing "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies to my Momma at least once a week when I was a little girl.

The Honeybee Song is just too cute! http://youtu.be/8syK8FwwYPk

Tom Petty did one called "The Honeybee"

If you want a goofy laugh here's a clip from Who's Line is it Anyway? called Greatest Hits: Songs of the Beekeeper.

Even in hymns :D

"I'd Rather Have Jesus"
3rd verse
He's fairer than lilies of rarest bloom
He's sweeter than honey from out of the comb
He's all that my hungering spirit needs
I'd rather have Jesus and let Him lead

"Honey in the Rock" by The Carter Family
Honey In The Rock

Oh my brother, do you know the Savior
Who is wondrous kind and true?
He's the Rock of your salvation
There is honey in the Rock for you

Oh, honey in the Rock (oh, honey in the Rock)
Sweet honey in the Rock (sweet honey in the Rock)
Oh it tastes just like honey in the Rock
Oh taste and see if the Lord is good
Oh it tastes just like honey in the Rock

Have you tasted that the Lord is gracious?
Do you walk in the way that's new?
have you drank from the living fountain?
There is honey in the Rock for you

Oh, there's honey in the Rock my brother
There is honey in the Rock for you
Leave your sins fur the Blood to cover
There is honey in the Rock for you

"Jerusalem the Golden"
Jerusalem the golden, with milk and honey blest,
Beneath thy contemplation sink heart and voice oppressed.
I know not, O I know not, what joys await us there,
What radiancy of glory, what bliss beyond compare.

I know there are tons more...but I'm tired. See y'all tomorrow.

Great taste, Omie! You must be hanging out with the right gut-strung-minstrel-banjo-playin' crowd!

I know a similar one with almost identical lyrics to "Kitty Clyde" called "Free Little Bird":
"If I was a honey bee,
I'd not sup (suck?) my honey from the comb,
I'd steal a kiss from my true love's lips,
and back to my hive I would go."

also Tracy Swartz's "Poor Dirt Farmer":
"The poor ol' dirt farmer, how bad he does feel,
He stepped on a beehive, got stung on the heel."
