I have a screen on my TBH & under the screen is a bottom board. I'm in FL where the weather is warm (cocoa beach). Do I leave the bottom board off the whole time it's warm or do I leave it on unless they are bearding on the outside? I was told two different things. I also was told to keep them right in the sun. Another person told me to find some shade. There's not a lot of shade in my yard. But the tall privacy fence casts shadows in the morning and afternoon, as well as the trees the line one side of the fence. Some insight would help. Thank you! Someone told me I shouldn't keep the bottom board off during hot times unless they beard. ImageUploadedByBeekeeping Forum1461629992.019214.jpg

My 2cents is you don't need a bottom board in FL. There are those that run hives with no bottom boards year round up here [although I do not use screened bottom boards]. Full sun will help with SHB.
