Hello. I am a first season beekeeper from Wisconsin.
I built a top bar hive. Introduced the bees about 2 weeks ago. They were doing well and I left for 5 days to attend my son's graduation.
Upon returning, very little comb building was going on, on the top bars. Rather they have been actively building comb under the board in which I place quart jars of sugar water. This is a jumble of comb.
My question is, given that my bees are new and have established no brood comb, should I leave this random comb alone, or remove it and the board forcing them to build on the top bar, or leave it hoping that brood comb exists. ??

Do you have any frames of comb you can suspend from one of the center top bars, or maybe a couple and go every other bar? Are you a member of a bee club and maybe you can get a couple of frames of empty comb from another member?
