Its my 2nd year and the girls are getting comb built up better than last. I have a few hives that are about 1/2 way built up and filled on the 2nd deep. All my supers are just foundation or empty frames. My question is, When should I add the supers due to no comb? Will the girls start building comb now saving time when they can put nectar in? I know what to do if there was comb built up but since they dont, should I add now or still wait till they fill another couple frames in the deep? :?:
They will fill the existing box before starting on the next one. Wait until the 8th or 9th frame is full before adding more.
What happens if you add a 2nd deep before the 8th or 9th frame is full? Is there harm in adding it too early? I had 6-7 frames full before leaving for a 2 week vacation and added the 2nd deep prior to leaving.... any harm done?
No harm done if the flow continues and they keep drawing comb. If they don't, they will start removing chunks of foundation from the upper box. I think you should still have plenty of flow left, tho.
