Hey all, hope things are buzzing well. Question: I typically make my 1:1 on the stove low heat. Well, got caught up in something and let it start to boil.
I heard if you get it to hot it becomes something not good for the bees. Anyone know what temp that is?

If you are talking about Table sugar, made from beets or cane, I don't think you can hurt it. Making fondant requires a lot more heat than boiling and fondant is used as winter feed.
I have read that honey breaks down when overheated and is not good for bees.

I would boil plain water then stir in sugar. There is a chemical change at the point of boiling, it is a whole lot easier to make without the worry, for me at least,

I'm with Ray, I don't think you can hurt white sugar. FWIW, I don't even heat my syrup anymore, just mix with hot tap water.

OK, thanks, boiling the water first sounds like the best approach. Or better yet just using hot tap water.

I mix my 1:1 with cold water and a paint mixer. Works fine.

I use hot tap water and a wooden spatula in a pitcher. Works fine.

... Last night I tossed the stuff I overheated and made it with hot tap water. That worked fine. I really didn't think it would dissolve but it worked nicely.
