Smoked ham hocks cooked in a big pot of pinto beans, with chow-chow and onions. Fried okra. Potatoes Fried apples. Hot Biscuits. It jist don' git no better......
It jist don' git no better...... Well maybe a little better; change them pintos for navy beans, then [ I know this is a honey board BUT ] take about a 1/4 stick of soft butter cover with black molasses, use your fork to squish and mix, then fork on to them hot biscuits. You'll think you died and went to Heaven ! Murrell
Then what do you do with the rest of the mole bodies?  Naw, molasses are for breakfast. Just plain hot butter biscuits for supper...
What the heck is chow-chow? I don't even want to know how moles entered this discussion. Unless they are star-nosed moles. Sincerely, your resident Yankee
Either of you ever hear of cornbread and soughum. You don't eat biscuits with brown beans:mrgreen: Jack
HAHA! I got a good chuckle out of that Hobie! molasses = mole asses...............he put molasses on his biscuit, so what happened to the rest of the mole? chow-chow is basically pickled cabbage with other veggies thrown in for taste. The recipes will vary to the canners taste and what was handed down.
don't much care for sorghum or molasses, a little too rich and sweet for my taste. Chicken fried steak home made biscuits gravy fried potatoes fried okra fresh sweet corn on the cob with butter and bacon grease peach cobbler with home made ice cream a little nap on the porch listening to the crickets and watching the lighting bugs snuggled up to the better half.
Doh! Forgive me, but when you Southern folk start talking about "supper" and "moles," at the same time, I have to wonder! I've heard rumors....!
I guess sometimes you have to wonder! The saying at our house is "if it don't outrun the kids, we'll probably eat it". I have to say though that I would have to draw the line at moles.....yuck Sounds like a good supper to me Iddee! G3's sounds awful good too though.... now I'm hungry and it's too late to fry anything!
Let's revive this thread. Tonight........ Bar-B-qued venison ribs, potato salad, broccoli covered in cheese, and Fred bread.
Tonight we had: Boiled onions and boiled shrimp and white corn with a sauce for dippin' sauce was mayo/ketchup and lemon juice. I love biscuits with butter and fall honey! ...JP
since I didn't cook today (we were busy!) I'll put up yesterday's. Bean soup with ham hocks, fried potato pancakes, fried apples, cornbread, and rice pudding.
Tonight..... Wife found a recipe for honey baked chicken. It was great. Along with asparagus, mashed potatoes, and mac&cheese.
BBQ ribs mashed taters whole kernal corn green beans hot rolls....................I need to make some of that fred bread!!
I don't know about that, but it will bankrupt the local breadmaker. You'll never go back to store bought.
