Cracks at corner of mouth

4346 Views 12 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  roadkillbobb
In the last couple of weeks, for the first time in my life, I have developed cracks in the corners of my mouth. I have been applying a local beekeepers beauty cream she makes out of beeswax. It's helping with the dryness a little, but not much else. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would propolis be better? I think I need something with some more antibacterial properties.

I've read that anti-fungal creams can be effective for cracked corners of the mouth. Sometimes a localized yeast infection is to blame.

If applying stuff and following other suggestions don't seem to help, then you might consider taking a B-complex vitamin supplement or eating more food with B vitamins- various B vitamin deficiencies include symptoms of cracked lips and cracked mouth corners. Read some of these links.
Clotrimaderm cream + Hydrocortisone powder 1%, apply to affected area twice daily.
I know this is not bee medicinal, but worked for me, by the end of the second day of using it, I was cured.
I also have this problem at times. Get painful cracks in the corners of my mouth.

Spoke to my MD about it years ago and he suggested (this is going to sound weird) Lotrimin. Yea the athletes foot cream. I tried it and to this day still use it. A small dab at the affected corner and poof cracks heal up. Usually one or two applications are all I need.
My doc said there was a vitamins deficient and to take them every day to get rid of it. I did and the cracks at edge of mouth have not came back.

Clotrimaderm and Lotrimin are both anti-fungal preparations, effective if the cracks are the result of small yeast infections.
Again, an increase in various B complex vitamins (either in foods or in a pill) should also help prevent future recurrances.
I have been using an first aid antibiotic ointment for two days and have improved greatly. I will mention this to the doctor today when I go in for a routine checkup. The older you get, the stranger the ailments.
Thanks for all the helpful comments and I will check into eating for foods containing B complex vitamins. I guess this calls for beer! Wahoo!
Vitamin D deficiency can also cause this. Eight ounces of milk (or the equivalent) a day should take care of it.

...and the more frequent.

Ya just gottta take care of yourself and don't let the little things turn big.
During my annual visit to the doctor, I inquired about these cracks at the corners of my mouth. He did a blood test for Vitamin D deficiency, which came back negative. I have been applying an over the counter antibacterial cream that has made a big difference. One has to be consistent, or it will return.

B12 deficiency for me, vitamins cleared it right up
