I brought this one in last fall and didn't really expect it to make it through the winter, but it did. Now it is time to do a cut out. I am going to let a few newbees get their initiation on it Wednesday morning.

The hive was strong enough that we framed 8 full frames of brood and didn't get it all.
We added the second deep when we decided the first box wouldn't hold them all.

I found the queen on the bottom board and herded her into the hive.

Well, Iddee, you told me to get in here so here I am. You need to come clean about this situation. I don't know how you can call us newbees. I totalled up our combined beekeeping experience and it comes to almost 5 percent of yours. As to suiting up, we were just following orders (and avoiding finding out if the fellow at the truck was going to be allergic to beestings). It was a really great learning experience and a good place to be with friends and fellow beekeepers.

My eventual challenge will be how to get the hinged frames out and get standard frames and proper bee space into the deep. More fun!
