IMG_5216.JPG Hi completely new to beekeeping, I was doing a hive inspection today and I came across a drone with a really dry looking thorax and spider web looking material on its wings. Is this deformed wing? Something else? Thanks for the help!

Possible, but looks more like the guards chewed its wings, they tend to do that if the drone doesn't get the message on leaving the hive. If your concerned with mite levels do an alcohol shake to see were your at.

Definitely check mite levels with an alcohol or powdered sugar shake but that doesn't look like the DWV I've seen

I did have quite a few drones in the hive the last time I checked maybe they were trying to kick excess ones out. Planning to do an alcohol wash this weekend. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help! I am new to beekeeping but it didn't look like any pictures of DWV I have seen but it did look out of place. I will be checking mite levels soon. Thanks!
