Did a presentation at an elementary school. It was a blast. Kids asked some very good questions. I built a observation display that will hold a deep and medium frame. I had a nuc with 3 frames that had capped queen cells. I put one of these frames with a queen cell on it and a frame of honey. Kids and teachers went crazy looking at them. So I get home from work today and the bottom of the queen cell was open. I swear I saw the queen. Took my eye off her to grab my phone for a picture and I lost her. So, I cut a 1 inch hole in the bottom of the display to let the bees out. I want to see if she will mate and come back in and start laying. What is interesting is I had the frames reversed. Honey frame on bottom and brood/queen cell frame on top. When I got home today, the bottom frame was all clean and empty. Now the top frame is full of nectar/honey. They made it right. If that was the queen I saw and she gets mated and returns, she has a nice clean frame to get started in. This will be cool to watch. We'll see what happens.
