...to catch swarms from your own colonies so you can feel like this  instead of this :crybye:. I was pondering having one on the far side of my back yard...just in case. Is this standard procedure for some (or all) of you?

I have tried and never been successful. But I had a swarm move into an empty box in my backyard last year.

At home (no bees), I have an outside stack of sealed used boxes. Every year, I get scout bees checking them out. I put a bait box on top of the stack and each year get one or two swarms in it.

A friend of mine (no bees) likes me to place a bait hive in his garden. He is well pleased to see scouts investigating and the arrival of a swarm is a highlight for him and his neighbours.
