Exposure to Sublethal Doses of Fipronil and Thiacloprid Highly Increases Mortality of Honeybees Previously Infected by Nosema ceranae
After exposure to sublethal doses of fipronil or thiacloprid a higher mortality was observed in N. ceranae-infected honeybees than in uninfected ones.

thanks for all the links you are providing Americasbeekeeper.... all good stuff.

somewhat related to the above link.... but perhaps more induced by my recent talks with Paul Jackson.... is there a reference for all these 'insecticide' type products (Fipronil and Thiacloprid)? I recently received an analysis of samples taken a year ago in the national bee health survey from the national lab and I am at a loss to try and figure one of the 'insecticide' type products. I am just trying to figure out where the things that did show up 'might' have come from. any help will be greatly appreciated....

I think fipronil is the active ingredient in Roach Bait? Some people use roach bait in shb traps. I am NOT sure, but it sounds pretty darned familiar. That or it is the active ingredient in Frontline. Yes, maybe that is it. My dogs are on the flea pill this year, so I don't think I can check the box.

Fipronil is roach bait. Flea and tick collars vary in their active ingredient. Often, these collars contain amitraz (a chemical that is an alpha2-adrenergic agonist and monoamine oxidase inhibitor), organophosphates or carbamates, or pyrethrins/pyrethroids. Amitraz is also a Varroa treatment. All the other compounds are extremely deadly to honey bees.

Gypsi seems to be pointing towards some of my own confusion. The same product is often used for various purposes and then labeled under different name.

thanks Americasbeekeeper for the link in #4. there seems to be some information there that gets me to an approximate understanding....

Many chemicals come in on foragers and high concentrations come in on beekeepers. From the most recent National Honey Bee Survey --
Table 2: Prevleance of Pesticides found in all samples (n=99) anlyized for the National Honey Bee disease survey.
