Feel free to check out my blog where I posted all about it http://www.jaredsbees.blogspot.com

They are really quiet today. I guess the trauma of being uprooted and moved in the rain tired them out a bit. I did sneak a look down through the hive top feeder and they have already started building comb over night! They are not touching the sugar water or pollen sub or patty so I guess they are using the frame of honey I put in there with them. There was a lot of chewed cappings on the ground below the hive.

I read your blog. Good description. Now let's see if I can totally confuse you "and others" on sugar water.

When you melt or dissolve granulated sugar, you get about half the amount you started with. Therefore, when you mix 1:1, you actually get about 2:1 liquid.

Since you mixed 2:1 in the beginning, you wound up with about 4:1, or 20% sugar, 80% water. Was that your goal?

Iddee do you not remember the other blog where we got into the semantics for a while? It is a true 2:1 that I put in. :)

That is great, I am so glad you got a hive up and going.

Looks like you planned ahead and have plenty of room to expand.

yes Iddee is extremely evil. diabolically evil. evil incarnate.

jared writes in his blog site...
The queen is a beautiful dark red and she is about 1.25†long!

    tecumseh:
sounds like by your description the queen is a Cordovan (a recessive genetic trait for Italians that makes the thorax and other black parts rusty red in color) and not Carnolians (which should be dark to very dark... ie black).

She is not a cordovan because 100% of the workers and drones are dark and not blond. There are 0 blonds in the hive. I am possitive the queen is carni. Even if she was cordovan, and mated with all carni drones, the bees should be lighter and one or two should be blond (even with the recessive genes for cordovan) The color of the queen is like a darker black/burgundy red...

I got ya' jareed. I kind of like those dark red queens.

since the worker obtain only half their genetics from the queen you would should see some that reflect her color and some that do not. since the drones represent 100% of the queens genetics you would look to them to have some direct idea of the queens coloration.

sorry, she might have been 1 1/8" and taking a really deap breath while stretching her abdomen... ;)

If my help comes saturday we will get a pic of her. She is one of the largest I have ever seen (but I have only been in about 35 hives). And I am sure it is a tight fit for her rump in the cells....

Some women have caught on to the hints over time that men kind of *like* ladies who are well endowed on the backside.

Years and years ago when Papa Beek still played in a rock band they played alot of songs like "Fat Bottom Girls"

My oldest son used to play some crazy rap song about big butts called "Baby's Got Back"......

Now some of the people in the younger generation consider 'phat' to mean a good thing...

    Men sure are weird :D
