Last wed. and Thur. nights we had our first frost, everything in the garden is black but the wild Aster (white and purple) that i let bloom. Glad i did, it sounds like your inside a bee hive when i walk through it. They are getting both nectar and pollen from it  . I guess the old time beeks knew what they were talking about when they told me frost made the aster better for the bees. Jack

Where are those moderators? How can we allow the "F" word? Next thing you know, people will be spouting the "S" word!

Well there goes the Aster, woke up this mourning and looked out the window, and at first i thought it had snowed. It's our first hard frost. Which brings up a question ? when everything is dead (flowers) and on warm days, i have seen the bees bringing in pollen, can they still get pollen from dead plants, or maybe there is something out there we don't know about  . Jack
PS. sorry Hobie i had to use the F and S word this time.

Frozen pollen is perfectly acceptable to the bees. It's the nectar that is missing.

Yep, we've been frosted. I missed pulling in the last of the Butternut squash, so I will have to chop, blanch, and freeze to save them. So far the weather Gods are keeping the snow out Omie's way. Thank goodness... still have boats to tarp and store (we store for friends) and 2 billion leaves to rake. Got the snow fence up, but have not been able to prune hedges, and they may break under snow. Like they say, you pick your battles. I'm not ready!

Yep, got 10 inches here! But most of it melted today the sun was wonderful.
In a way it could have been way worse if it was ice rather than snow.

    Yeah, EF,

Snow is nice-as long as you're looking at it through thermo-pane glass with a cheery fire in the fireplace.

I don't like it as much when I've got 18 wheels under me going across I-90 in Buffalo, NY in a blizzard, :beg:
