Howdy all! Newby here in Utah. Just preparing for our two hives and bees coming in May. We are getting two nuc pkgs. We are preparing our yard for optimal food gardening and beekeeping. Any of you have landscaping designs you like to share for the two together. Just slightly under an acre. We are are fenced in with 6 ft fence. We have neighbors on both sides and the back is a public sidewalk. We are setting them in 20 feet from neighbor and back fence. We have a dog that loves honey and also likes to munch on buzzing insects, so we are going to secondary fence-in a third of the yard so we can work on the hives and/or garden and she can remain outdoors.
Any of you name your queens? I am looking to name them from righteous honorable women of the bible. (Bible believing followers of Jesus Christ not Mormon...lol)
We have several books and have been educating ourselves best we can. Plus took a First Year Beekeeping class at local supply store that we are getting most of our supplies from.

Looking forward to learning more here at the forum, and considering starting a youtube for a live journal of our experiences.

good luck in starting to be keep, bees fly miles to forage, have a good water source in your yard...and remember..you can do everything 100% and the bees still die or leave..so dont be discouraged if that happens....you just have to get more bees and start over..if you have alot of honey bees in your area, build or buy a swarm trap to try and catch some free bees...
