Is there a standard protocol to decide which side of hive is frame #1 position!

I never have heard of one. Right now many beekeeper can not even come to a consensus on how many frames to even put into a box much less a numbering scheme for the frames.

just for myself I would say standing at the back of the hive the frame on the left hand side of the box is frame one and continue on from there.

left side of the box, standing from behind, #1 frame for myself as well.

That should be easy; we read from left to right too and we dont stand in front of the hive.

    Thanks,
