Had totally forgotten about this....was looking thro' old photographs and found evidence that I had been close up to African Bees a long time ago.

Honey robbing in South Africa on a Winter hunt , probably around 1985, just Near Waterval Boven ???

We had watched the Honey Guide Bird lead us to the wild hive the day before, and the local wisdom was you only tried to take some honey when cold and at night.... (Probably do it different now)
You also only took about 1/5 of what you could see....... respect for nature.

I've often wondered how the AHB and our long gone (i hope) German Black bee would compare. .We cut many bee trees along the Big Sac river (in Mo.) in the winter and robbed them back in the 40's and 50's, but like the AHB you earned what you got. Jack
