i just wanted to say hi & i am glad i found this forum.

i have not been around any bee hives in 25+ years.my Grandfather used to keep bees and he used to let me tag along.i have been thinking about getting some bees for a few years and i finally quit "procrastinating" about it and i now have packages ordered.

i do think 'Pa would have told me i was crazy if i told him i plan to use all mediums

Welcome TJ, I am just started this year myself with a package of bees this April. You will find a lot of good stuff about bees here, I have so for and my feeling I will proably kill them before it is over with.

a big Howdy from Texas. set down and set a spell and let's talk.

as one gets a bit older the wisdom in ALL those mediums becomes more and more apparent.

    Welcome TJ
Personally, I think your 'Pa would be proud you are carrying on with bees no matter how you choose to do it. Congratulations on taking the plunge.
You will not find a friendlier place to "set a spell" like tec says, read and ask, and contribute when you can.

It looks like you got stung when you were young and only now are starting to swell.
    Well that's great news.
    Welcome to the forum.

TJ, I've been in bees for 35 plus years. I'll repeat what you said. "I have a lot to learn". So don't get in a hurry to learn it all, cause you won't. :D

PS. Welcome. I hope you like it here.

Welcome aboard from a neighbor, well sort of. I live in Lawrence county and started beekeeping last April. Like you following the example of my grandfather. This site has been a lot of help to me and will be to you also.

My copy is the 34th edition (1972). I wonder how many times I've gone through it--and still learn new things from it (age takes its toll on memory and requires a bit of assistance).

oddly enough ef and I appear to be reading from the same edition of abc/xyz <prior to the internet the best reference a new beekeeper could possible pocess...imnsho.

I don't know why but some of the older abc/xyz with their very dated style of writing has some appeal to folks like myself.
