This will be my first winter with bees and I'm stuck on this question: How much longer should I continue to inspect my hive. I took an inventory last week and determined that they don't have enough pollen or capped honey stored up to overwinter so, I'll help with that by continuing to feed 2:1 sugar syrup and pollen patties in the top feeder until they stop taking them. I've got my mouse guard on and I know I'll have to wrap the hive sometime in October. But I'm wondering about hive inspections until then. The queen has most likely stopped laying since the Autumnal Equinox was a few days ago and they're busy sealing everything up with propolis. Am I supposed to stay out of the hive from now on or should I continue inspecting every couple of weeks until daytime temps drop below 50 degrees F?
