I'm in north central NC, between Greensboro and Durham. I'm not new to bee keeping but I still need to learn some "tricks of the trade". Started about 3 1/2 years ago with 1 two deep hive that my sisters late husband left behind. Split it into 3 smaller hives the first year. Lost the weak hive over winter. Got honey off the other 2 hives the following summer. Both hives went into winter strong with plenty of honey. Lost both to an extended extreme (for our area) cold spell last winter. Both hives still had honey on the comb but so cold the girls couldn't get to it. Now planning to restart next year and interested in long bar hives.

Hello necrosapien and welcome to the forum. Doing splits is a great way to increase your numbers.
