We did an inspection yesterday. The super we put on is empty. No drawn out comb or anything. Should we just remove it?
The first deep is full of a nice deep red honey. Some is capped but most if not. No brood at all. It's all honey. The first frame is also untouched. The bottom deep looks almost the same. Also noticed that there are a lot less bees than before. We have had a few days of frost up here. Does all this sound normal?

    Remove the super.
The old bees are dying off and your winter bees will form the majority of your cluster.
It sounds like you've done all you can and it is pretty much up to the bees from here.
    Entrance reducers on?
    Mouse guards?
    Upper ventilation?
    Insulation under your outer cover?

inner cover is on. Entrance reducer is on middle setting. Candy board will go on in a few weeks.

If your mites are under control and there is no evidence of disease, you're good to go.
Candy board is a good idea.

(By the way, a pre-CONGRATULATIONS on your next post! (# 100) Thanks for being a part of things here.

thanks. I had no idea I had posted that much. We didn't see any evidence of disease. We used the board a few days ago to look for mites. Didn't see anything there either. Candy board will go in the week before thanksgiving. We're going to where we got our hive and bees. It was going to be last weekend, but the guy running it forgot that he had to go to Haiti.
