I had a call yesterday from a contractor who does insulation work on old houses for the government. He was blowing insulation into the walls of an older brick home and discovered bees was in the pantry. They was comming into the pantry and going to the light through a crack. He thought they was in the ceiling. I asked if he had his infrared heat detector he uses to analyze homes insulation needs. He did and I told him to use it and see where the cluster was through lath and plaster. I bet him they was in the wall not ceiling. He called back today and said sure enough they was in the wall and he was amazed at how well the cluster showed up on his scanner. It registered 8 degrees different than the rest of the wall. And showed a round red spot. He is up in the Kansas city area. I would imagine the owner of the home will have them removed this spring so he can finish insulating. Wanted to share this with all I found it interesting

That is interesting, Rat. Thanks for posting it.
Now I'm wondering how much one of those gizmos cost and if it would be worth getting one.

$2.000....
I would say the only guy on the forum that catches enough swarms and cut-outs to afford that would be Zookeep, but his swarms mostly build on the outside to make things easier for him.
Nifty thing to have access to though.

Iddee, just paint a couple of Xs in the wifes garden plot and let em go to diggin :D .

A thermal camera runs 2k and up but I'll bet a thermal/infrared thermometer will work as well and you can get the at Harbor freight for around $30. Jim
