Wasps (Vespa orientalis) have been around all summer long, but now, with September around the corner, their numbers have started really picking up. How do I deal with them? I took a piece of potato sack (from a sack of potatoes I bought in the store), strung a wire around it to make a frame that holds it open, and while the wasps are hunting for my bees, I hunt for them. Snap! The wasp is covered. Squash! The wasp is done with. This all goes on right in front of the hive entrance. As if the girls know I'm on their side, they keep on with their work and ignore my presence.
