My daughters lap top it all fouled up with a virus.
I need the "expert" for a rescue
is this a new addition?
Yep, if you have a problem with something ask here in this forum and maybe someone will have an answer or can help you out.
What do you think about it?
Did you also notice the personal blogs everyone has??
With moving and everything I forgot all about that puter, sorry
I think at this point the thing to do is get what you need off of it and get the recovery disks. Do you remember if they came with the laptop or is there a "recovery partition"? Click the start button then "all programs" and look for "recovery manager". It could be under an HP folder in all programs too...
Have a look at this:

Not a problem on my part, Jenny getting a little frustrated but using Donna's apple.
Jenny has down loaded her pics and other stuff and says it is ready to go.
No recovery disk came with it and we did not down load the files to a disk.
No recovery manager couild be found.
It had several things locked up so I could not access them.
You had given me a link to where I could purchase the recovery disk from HP, not sure what I did with it, will have to look around.
G3, it is in the link above. It's a long link with a lot of info on it, like how to access the recovery manager on boot up, and how to order a new disc.
Here's something I just ran across that you can try too:
Here's the link to your specific model:

yep that was the link, will work on this tomorrow evening.
Battery will need to recharge in her laptop.
Thanks again. for looking at this!
nope will not pull up in safe mode
safe mode is f8 on reboot, did the f11 do anything?
dang, that is a bummer. Let me know if hp say's they don't have them anymore and I'll help you locate them...
will it still boot to the operating system? if so it can most likely be cleaned without loosing her stuff. JL
If I remember right then this one was infected with the "personal security" virus with the blue shield. An exceptionally nasty version :-(
Did you ever get those disks and get this one going again G3?
nope never did anything with it, she moved over to her moms laptop. Might still try to resurrect her old one though.
She is graduating this saturday and going to UT Knoxville this fall, sooooo I guess I will neeed to splurge and buy her a new laptop for school, any thoughts on that??
Yea the one you have now is pretty slow by today's standards. My wife works for HP, I can have her take a look and see if they have any good internal deals if you like...when your ready to take the plunge that is
Sounds like a winner to me. I thought about just before she starts school.
I'll see what the wife can find ancing:
Thanks, your the man
Hey G3, nothing spectacular has come across the wires as far as a laptop goes...but I saw this today and it is a very impressive laptop for 379. Newegg is a solid company (I've ordered 1000's of dollars of stuff over the years)
