Late swarms

    Two of my hives threw swarms this week. One was a split I did several months ago that never did take off real well (never really moved into the second super I provided). Hard to figure why it would swarm. :?:
    The other was a hive I found queen (swarm) cells in on July 26 th. This was a nice queen I didn't want to lose so I put her and a couple of frames into a nuc, nicked all the swarm cells but two (to prevent afterswarms) and hoped to fool them into thinking they had swarmed. I guess it didn't work. Would this probably have been a virgin queen leaving?

    When she left the hive, Yes. When she landed, probably not. That's why drones go with the swarm.
