For many years I have purchased tools and supplies for a penturning group direct from the supplier or manufacturer. To give you an idea. I do not even consider doing it unless the final product comes in at 25% or less of the local supplier or catalog prices. For example a pen making tool that costs over $30 here in the U.S. from any supplier I was able to get for around $7 shipped to the customer. On another thread someone posted a question about a grafting tool. the thread caused me to go look around in some of my old sources. and guess what I found? A whole slew of direct from the manufacturer beekeeping supplies. Now keep in mind this sort of buying requires a few things. First and most important is risk. There is very little known about a product it's exact quality etc until it arrives. I initiate contact and to start questioning them about quality is an insult. I have never yet had a major issue with quality. some damaged product at times and that was taken care of. Every company I have ever dealt with has been on the up and up. My source for finding them is somewhat pre qualified as a legitimate business. Prices are usually very low but it comes at a degree of uncertainty until the product arrives. once that is established we know if we have a legitimate source for a good product at a good price. And that is how it is. if that is not something you are interested in that is fine. Second you can save all the how I am taking food out of the mouth of babes stuff. If I was able to do that I woudl gladly put every other supplier out of business. that is after all what they are trying to do to each other. Then I would offer myself to the highest bidder as the worlds greatest marketing director. Third. low prices breed suspicion. I invite all question especially those rooted in concern. Some I will not be able to answer at this time but will asap. others I can answer. More than anything this is a situation of trust and trust must be established. I fully understand that. I have proven myself to others. I can do it again. so fire away. I will personally back this financially. If you are not happy I will personally refund your money. For now this is in regard to grafting tools only. If you are interested in similar deals being found for other beekeeping items let me know. large items are probably not going to work. I have no place to keep 100 extractors for example. For right now. I have a supplier waiting for my final approval on an order of 500 Chinese grafting tools. Plastic and wood. cost to you is $1.00ea given there are no nasty surprises like import fees and duties. plus postage from me to you. I usually break these things down into costs and each cost stands for someting Item cost is of course the cost of the item. shipping cost is the cost to ship the item from the supplier to me Postage cost is the cost of mailing the item from me to you. A special note on postage costs. you can run down to the post office and find out what the postage is on a 1 oz package. you can even read the postage paid on the cancellation stamp. it will not read what I charged you. did you add the cost of printing or the cost of the label that got printed. did you add the cost of the envelope or box. they are not free. I calculate them and I add them to the cost of postage. Finally I do this at no profit. that does not mean I do not add a mark up. no program can run on exact dollars out exact dollars in. additional costs always arise. so I add a small mark up to cover mistakes. lost orders. damages in the mail or what have you. I have never had anyone not get an order. plenty of problems getting it done. In the past I developed these programs and then hand them off to others to continue to operate. But it is with the understanding it is as a service to a club so to speak. this is a way to become more involved in a group like this. and it is a powerful tool to develop value in a group such as this. My first program was for purchasing super glue. that program is still running to this day. 9 years later. If you want a look at my resume. go to penturners.org and look for the group buys done by me Daniel. Ask the members there about my reliability and not letting a group by fall apart. my last one took 8 months and real nightmare to pull off. but I got it done and not one order did not get filled. In this case I am not thinking of a send me the money up front type situation. But that I will order the tools out of my pocket. I can then give a report on their quality and condition. At this time I am making this offer only to this group. if the admin of this group does not agree with this being conducted here please let me know. It is a tool that can be used to attract other members as well as enhance the community of this group. Warning a program like this has proven to develop trust among members of a group. It also has proven that the group becomes vulnerable to being taken advantage of. I highly recommend there be some oversight in that regard. Just a warning I have seen it happen. If this is done I will guarantee you I will not be the only one doing stuff like this in a year. Trust only those that have earned your trust. and that includes me. Develop that now and make it an expectation. or there are those that will see your weakness and take advantage of it. I did not harm my program at penturners.org. others did. but to this day I feel I lead them eyes wide shut into it. many people that nobody really knew started making offers and they did not conduct the purchases according to my standards. I attempted to warn them that they where trusting to many people. Nobody ever really got hurt I just saw the potential for it. So I shut down my programs so I did not encourage the behavior. I know I must earn trust. I also know others must do so also. If I see the membership in general forget that I will protect them as much as I can. Never trust blindly.
