It got to the point today that I had no choice but to head to the farm to ready for the packages I'm picking up Saturday seems like the weather has always been bad on the weekends. So last night I loaded up my suv with 4 hives ( because that's all I could fit in there ). Dad went out with me to the nuc which was the only bees we were able to over winter. My plan was to move them to a 10 frame. I guess somewhere along the way I forgot to let the bees know the plan of action. Opened the hive up and it was packed of bees all 5 frames covered plus some and 3 queen cells. I was actually ready for this had a ten and 5 frame with me. So I walked dad thru doing a split and was able to show him the signs of a swarm in the waiting. Left the frames w/queen cells in the nuc and took the other 2 frames and the queen and put them in another 5 frame and moved them to the 2nd yard. Dads ? was are the bees on the now queenless hive make their way back into the hive. Without the queen is there any attraction for them to head back in the hive? So I know we are past day eight what is the time table now to open the queen less hive up and look for the new queen?
