I am so sad with the loss of so many of the bees. How hard is it to figure out what killed them. All the harsh chemicles they spray on everything would kill anything and we too are dying slowly.
I want to get a hive for next year but think I am too old to start a new hobby. I'm 60, don't know the first thing about keeping bees or where to get some so I need your advice.
I got this forum from Craigs List and thought this was a North Carolina bee forum as that is where I am from. I tried to sign up for a beekeepers class but they are not having one this year. :twisted: I don't want to go into this completely blind so what do you recomend? I wouldn't mind buying them if someone else would care for them. Are there people that do that? I do not know the terms of bees so is there a place in this forum that explain beekeeping terms for those not so knowledgeable like me?? Thanks for this forum.

Hi busybee, welcome to the forums. No this forum is not just for the NC folks, it's open to anyone interested in beekeeping. How much land do you have? You should try contacting the NC beekeepers association and see if anyone there is interested in putting hives on your property. If you have adequate space and there's natural food and water for the bees then you may be in luck...

As far as learning try the free report stickied at the top of the general beekeeping forum, it'll give you an idea of what it takes to keep bees.

If your within driving distance of Monroe, NC I would be glad to help you out with bees and or a homemade short corse in beekeeping. We keep several large gardens; the bees are a marjor plus!

Hi, I'm in Randolph co.(Central Carolina) Live in the country on over 3 acers. I saw honey bees early in the spring, then nothing. My blossoms just fell off. I hand pollenated some.

I'm also in Randolph County and have started many with their first hive. I will take you into a few of my hives, show you the different parts and components, stages of growth, honey and pollen stores, ETC. I can sell you a hive or two, then be available 24/7 for help and assistance.

Bee Catcher, This is so cool! Where in Randolph co do you live and would you consent[ to a visit? I would love to look at someones hives. Things are getting worse and you pretty much have to start to be self sufficient as best you can.

What kind of bees do you have and why did you choose that kind? I have a lot to learn. :lol: b]
