I installed my 3 lb. package of bees with queen (Carniolan) into their brand new hive on April 11th... with a hive top feeder & one pollen patty.

On inspection, I am having a hard time locating the queen (she's unmarked), but do see all stages of developing bees, so I'm not too worried about her.

Today, when I removed the hive top feeder, they had started building comb up into the screen space in the feeder and 6 and a half of the 10 frames were looking pretty good!!

So, after I destroyed 2 drone cells (thinking they might have been queen cells, I'm a newbie!), I added the 2nd deep and removed the entrance reducer, hive top feeder and added the inner cover.

Am I about on target? Are they doing well?
