started last march with 2 packages and 2 nucs all 4 hives still alive and well
Welcome smokey 1, to the forum, good luck with your bees, just make sure they have plenty of food until spring.
Agree with Kebee... winter ain't over yet.
Hi, I'm from Western PA. Lost bees last year (first bee experience). I'm trying again with 2 nucs coming in May. My old hives still have foundation, some honey ect. I have them out of the weather now on my porch. There are lots of bees having a great time. Should I be worried that they will clean out my hives? I was hoping to give my new bees a real head start with what was left in the hive.
Should I be concerned?
Should I bring the hives into another area inside until it's time for my new nucs?
I have never done a forum before so please bear with me.
I'd leave them on the porch, they are cleaning house, who knows, some may just move on in. Might build a spare hive just in case
Yes IN my opinion those bees are robbing it out I would open them up and check to see what is going on in the hive. You may have wax moth damage going on I do not know when you lost the bees. It may be wise to freeze your frames for a day or two if there is wax moths. why did your bees die.
